ImageCan I work in Australia? Visa issues.

When you are granted a student visa for Australia (after 26 April 2008), you are automatically given working rights.

This permission allows you to work a maximum of 20 hours per week during the term (excluding any work undertaken as a registered component of their course of study or training) and unlimited hours when your course is not in session.

You can start working after your course has commenced.

If you are brining a family member with you to Australia the following rules apply. Family members of students are not allowed to work until the student begins their course. They are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week at all times. Family members of students who have started a masters or doctorate course may work unlimited hours.

You must obtain a Tax File Number (TFN) to be able to work in Australia. This is available from the Australian Tax Office.

For more information please contact your education provider or the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship. The Department has an excellent website with all the information you require.
