International students are able to work limited hours while studying in Australia provided they have a relevant working visa. In fact, there is evidence that more than 30% of international students receive income from employment during their studies. 1

When considering the possibility of working or not, you should think carefully about how much time you will need to study and how much time you may have free to work. Remember, that you need to do well in your study program as well!

The benefit of working in Australia is that you can gain valuable work experience with an international company.  If you are thinking about working in Australia, try to get a job in something related to your future career. Remember that you can also participate in an internship or volunteer program to gain experience in the workplace.

Some international students decide to take an “easy” job to keep the focus on their studies and earn some extra money for a holiday or other fun activities. This is not a bad option if you want to enhance your experience and keep your focus on your studies.

Most university campuses have a Career Development Office or a similar office where you can go for support in finding a part time job or getting assistance and advice on how to apply for jobs in Australia.
