ImageAustralia has one of the highest levels of internet usage in the world. There are a wide range of internet providers which offer different levels of service. In addition, many education institutions offer wireless connection facilities on their campuses.

It is difficult to list all the internet providers and products offered by each internet provider in this website however, we can give you a few recommendations.

When you first arrive in Australia you can make use of Internet Cafes or Internet Pre-paid cards. You can find internet cafes in almost every shopping centre or close to most train stations. Another good option is to buy a pre-paid internet card that allows you to use the internet on your computer for a fixed period of time. You can buy these cards in any retail shop or news agency.

Australian internet providers offer internet plans according to the amount of information you download. Before deciding which plan to take, we recommend you think about how much you intend on using the internet.

Plans, plans and more plans. Companies in Australia tend to provide internet services usually on a fix 12-month plan. Be aware, that when you sign a plan, you will be locked into that provider for the 12 months unless you break the contract and pay the penalty fees which vary between providers. Australian providers are however starting to introduce more flexible plans so, we suggest you shop around for your internet plan.

It is common to get a good deal if you combine your internet service with you mobile or home phone. By combining all your phones and internet, you may save some money.

Sometimes getting a small internet provider can be cheaper but they will not have the support and service that you expect.

A website which lists the most popular Internet providers and provides a search function for plans according to your preferences is - Broadband Choice.

You will also usually be given an email address by your institution when you enrol and you will have access to your email through your institutions student portal.  It will be important that you check your student email account frequently as most institutions will send you important notices to that account.
