Hobart and Tasmania (TAS)

Tasmania is one of Australia’s smallest states and is separated from the mainland by the Bass Strait. The population of Tasmania is 488,700. Main centres are Hobart (the capital city with 203,600 people) Launceston (98,500) Burnie (18,000) and Devonport (25,000)

Tasmania promotes itself as the Natural State because of its large, and relatively unspoiled natural environment with 36% of the state containing reserves, National Parks and World Heritage Sites.

The capital and largest city is Hobart, which also encompasses the cities of Glenorchy and Clarence. Other major population centres include Launceston in the north, and Devonport and Burnie in the northwest.

Tasmania provides a relaxing pristine environment. It may be small but it has so much to offer such as its mountainous and beautiful landscapes; friendly, welcoming people; temperate climate; quality wines and food; a spirited history; and a creative arts community.

Tasmania is well known for its Tasmanian Devil which is a carnivorous marsupial. It can only be found in Tasmania.
