 Train

If your institution is not able to provide an airport pick-up service or for some reason you miss your pick-up, you have a number of options available to you to take you to your preferred destination.

Taxis

Taxis are a very good option because they will take you straight to your final destination. They are  convenient especially when you are carrying all of your luggage. In Australia, taxis are well regulated and safe to use.

Taxis are usually always available at airports, bus stations, train stations and other tourist destinations.  You can find taxis in dedicated taxi ranks or you can flag a taxi down off the street by holding out your hand.

We suggest you to show the driver the address of your destination on paper if you are not confident in speaking in English.

Taxis can be more expensive than other transport alternatives but they are reliable and are recommended if you are carrying a lot of luggage. The driver should be able to tell you how much your taxi ride will cost to your destination before you leave.

Taxi drivers accept cash or you can also usually pay using credit cards.

Trains and buses

Bus stop

In almost every main airport in Australia you can find trains or buses that take you to the main areas in each city. This is a cheap option but you will be responsible for your own luggage.

If you are travelling light and know where to go this is a very good option.

Shuttle bus

It is also common to find at some airports companies that provide a shuttle bus service. This is a bus that you share with other passengers and which takes you to your final destination for a fixed fee. If you do not mind sharing a vehicle this can be a good option for you.

To find these companies just look for the “shuttle bus” signs or ask the airport staff.

Car Rental

Renting a car could be a good option if you are travelling in a group and you are a little bit adventurous! If you decide to take this option please consider that you will be driving in a new city with new directions, rules and maybe on the other side of the road to what you are used to. You need to be very careful while you are driving in Australia, all road signs are enforced.

In addition, you need to consider that you need to return the car at some point so we suggest asking the rental company if there is a location close to your destination, where you can return it to.

There are plenty of car rental offices inside airports in Australia. Just be aware that sometimes renting a car can be more expensive than taking a taxi.
